Elena napping en route. A 6am wakeup combined with an accidental purchase of milk tea instead of coffee made for a sleep journey.

A very large man miraculously fitting inside one of the entrances to the tunnels. These tunnels were used by the Viet Cong (communist guerilla groups based in the South but backed by the North) during the Vietnam War. They served as a vital network for communication and supplies as well as secret hiding spots during combat. After watching several people struggle not to enter the hole but to exit without assistance, a claustrophobic Elena and I regretfully abstained.

An activity a little more our speed: shooting an AK-47. This is a Type 56: mass produced by the Chinese and distributed throughout the communist army. Not pictured is our much too long journey crawling through one of the tunnels with our tour group. By the end of it, Elena and I were both drenched in sweat and on the verge of panic attacks. There is a particularly alarming photo taken by our tour guide, Booky, of me exiting the tunnel. For the sake of my dignity I will keep this photo to myself!

Booky convincing us to try a shot of snake infused liquor. Went down surprisingly smooth?
